Methodist Boerne Medical Center Emergency department

Boerne Community Outreach

When Methodist Hospital opened in 1963, chartered by the Southwest Conference of the United Methodist Church, the organization staked a claim as a trailblazer. Built on ranch land beyond the northwest limits of San Antonio, it was the original health facility in the South Texas Medical Center. That kind of vision continues to guide the organization.

In 1995, Methodist Hospital grew from a stand-alone hospital to a system of facilities through a partnership that created Methodist Healthcare Ministries, local owner of Methodist Hospital. Methodist Healthcare Ministries is now the largest private provider of health services to uninsured citizens in South Texas.

Over the years additions and acquisitions have brought Methodist Healthcare to encompass twenty-two facilities, with seven acute care hospitals: Methodist Children’s Hospital*, Methodist Hospital, Methodist Heart Hospital*, Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital*, Northeast Methodist Hospital*, Metropolitan Methodist Hospital* and Methodist Ambulatory Surgery Hospital—Northwest. Ground will soon be broken for an eighth acute care hospital, Methodist Stone Oak Hospital, on San Antonio’s north side, in addition to the new Methodist Boerne Medical Center that broke ground January 10.

Methodist Healthcare leaders take seriously the health needs, current and future, of Boerne citizens, being the first health care entity to purchase land and break ground for a medical services facilities here. In fact, a majority of this community—57 percent—already use a Methodist Healthcare facility when they seek medical care.

Methodist Healthcare realizes the importance of building lasting relationships within the communities it serves. Methodist Healthcare is proud to be involved with several organizations in Boerne. Two Methodist Healthcare team members have been enrolled in the Boerne Chamber of Commerce “Leadership Boerne” classes to become better acquainted with issues affecting Boerne and the State of Texas. Other examples of Methodist Healthcare participation in the Boerne community include a gift of valuable diabetes education for public school teachers, participation in the 2005 Weihnachts (Christmas) Parade with a float, a donation of a defibrillator to the Boerne High School Athletics Department and sponsor of the Rotary Charity Golf Tournament. Methodist Healthcare continues to support Country Mission for Health, Boerne YMCA Youth Athletic Sponsorship Package, Rainbow Senior Center Gala, Boerne Education Foundation's Wild, Wild West Gala and American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Kendall County.

The economic impact that Methodist Healthcare brings to Boerne is largely in the future, but begins with the conversion of agricultural-use land to high-end use, with the corresponding property tax contribution. The investment in the Methodist Boerne Medical Center will begin with $11 million, with much more to come as future phases are brought to fruition.

As Methodist Healthcare changes to meet the growing needs of our communities, our commitment has remained the same—to continuously improve the health and well being of the communities we serve—“Serving Humanity to Honor God.” It was true when we first were chartered as a single hospital in 1955 and it will be true for every facet of Methodist Healthcare in the future.
