Methodist Boerne Medical Center hosted four students from Boerne High School for Boerne Job Shadow Day sponsored by the Education Council of the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce on October 20. The event paired the four students with Robert Dickens, Associate Administrator and JoDee Kerestes, Senior Physician Representative who gave them a tour through Methodist Hospital departments such as ER, Cath Lab, Radiology, Clinical Admitting, Gamma Knife Center, and Cancer Care Centers of South Texas.

Our appreciation to Dr. Wissinger, Neurosurgeon, Drs. Dahiya and Siddiqi, Radiology/Oncology, Dr. Dix, Neuro Radiologist, and Dr. Olomu, Pediatric Anesthesiologist for taking time to answer questions the students had about their specialties.

Debbie Wampler, director of Membership Services and Women’s Outreach for Methodist Healthcare, was named 2005-2006 Rotarian of the Year by the Noon Rotary Club of Boerne. Wampler has been active in the Rotary Club since 2004. Her connection with the government and community of Boerne will be invaluable as Methodist Healthcare establishes its presence in the community. The Methodist Boerne Medical Center is due to open later this year and the Methodist Boerne Emergency Center is set to open in late 2007.

Construction on Methodist Boerne Medical Center continues to progress well despite a few days of rain. Crews have installed window systems and completed framing at the parapet around the roofline, allowing work to begin on the roofing system. Also around the jobsite, work continues on mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Crews continue to pour concrete, form curbs and gutters, and install sheathing, stucco and window frames.
